16/20

Smoke and leesy cheesiness. A sour-savoury breadth that reminds me of sourdough starter. Lightly floral apples and citrus. A bit short but enough on the mid palate to tick the box.

EXTRA BRUT

16/20

Different range from most houses. This is their cheapest wine. Gives disgorgement date on the back so it's a 2015 base.

EXTRA BRUT PREMIER CRU

16,5/20

Apple blossom and red-apple skin. Good matière in the mid palate – crisp fruit, a bit of a dairy tang (makes me think of lightly salted goat's butter), grapefruit and citrus-peel oils.

EXTRA BRUT PREMIER CRU ROSÉ

17/20

Plenty of yeasty autolysis on the nose and classic apple fruit. Generous fruit despite the low dosage. Expressive, classic, lengthy.

EXTRA BRUT PREMIER CRU BLANC DE NOIRS

17/20

Very lively with some attractive maturity on the nose. Broad. Appetising and perfumed. Long, neat and satisfying.

BRUT NATURE GRAND CRU

16,5/20

It does indeed have a certain chalky quality on the finish after bracing purity of fruit. Not too austere considering the zero dosage. Very correct.

BRUT NATURE LE MESNIL-SUR-OGER GRAND CRU

17,5/20

Curd and cut grapefruit, yuzu sorbet. Powerful with a stallion-ripple of raciness and muscle. An underline of brioche and girolles mushrooms sautéed in butter, but it's the drama of the high-wire, cut-glass acidity that dominates the wine from start to finish.

BRUT NATURE VILLEDOMMANGE PREMIER CRU LIEU-DIT "LES RIBAUDS"

16,5/20

Like the Villedommange bottling, distinctly light aromatically. Round and generously fruity. Belies the zero dosage on the palate. Fruit must have been very ripe! Really rather charming with a good, well-judged mousse. Even if not enormously complex.

BRUT NATURE VERZENAY GRAND CRU LIEU-DIT "LES CORETTES"

16,5/20

Very pale coppery salmon-pink indeed. Aroma of crushed strawberries but (obviously) no excess sweetness. Good balance and gentle mousse. No excess of neither sweetness nor acidity. You might argue that the finish is just a tiny bit phenolic, but then others would appreciate the assertiveness.
